A Brief Description

What you are shown below is a brief description of three major erectile dysfunction prescription drugs. This will help you understand the differences and similarities between the three of these medications.

  • Viagra- Sildenafil citrate is the base drug and the generic form of this medication. It was FDA-approved in 1998. It is made by a company called Pfizer, Inc. It is diamond-shaped and is blue colored with “VGR 50” or other dosage marking on the other side. It usually comes in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg tablets and it can be cut into halves or quarters. It lasts 4 to 5 hours.
  • Cialis-This is a brand name of a generic drug called Tadalafil. It has been approved by the FDA since 3002 and it is made by the Lilly ICOS LLC. It is yellow in color and has a film coating and is imprinted with a “C” and a dosage number on it. It usually is administered in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, or 20mg sizes. It is not usually recommended that you cut these medications. It lasts 24 to 36 hours.
  • Levitra-Vardenafil HCl has been approved since 2003. It is made by a company called Bayer Pharmaceuticals. It is round and orange in color and “BAYER” is printed on one side and the dosage number on the other.  It comes in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg dosages and can be cut into halves or quarters. The effectiveness of it is about 4 to 5 hours.

Safety and Side Effect Info

This medication should only be taken as needed no more than once a day. The dosage and instructions are usually given to you by your doctor.

All three medications (Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis) have similar side effect risks, usually minor. The most common side effects of users include one or more of the following:

  • Viagra- Headache, facial flushing, indigestion, and/or nasal congestion
  • Levitra- Dizziness, headache, heartburn, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose
  • Cialis- Headache, flushing, indigestion, congestion, muscle pain, and/or back and leg pain
